German Pinscher Health Information

Our Health Co-ordinator, Karen Wakefield who is also a Kennel Club Breed Liaison Council Representative (2019 - 2021) for the Working group has provided with the assistance of club members a comprehensive review of health related information including vaccine reaction information and required tests for breeding. The club is also carrying out a health survey to monitor the health of German Pinschers here in the UK alongside international genetic research being carried out by Professor Hannes Lohi from Finland. Further details below. Members of our club are also involved with new initaitives to further develop the health testing and long term future of our rare breed and some members have also recently attended the Kennel Club - Breed Watch Education Day.

Adverse Vaccine Reactions
Read the club's guide on adverse vaccine reactions here which is intended as an insight into potential vaccine related issues. It contains useful information for both owners and their vets when vaccinating a German Pinscher. The Officers of our Club are knowledgable on the subject and are happy to discuss German Pinscher specific reactions. For all veterinary concerns contact your vet in the first instance.

Mandatory Health Tests for Breeders
There are four main health tests which are currently mandatory before breeding within our club, details are available on our mandatory health tests page. The club also recommends that owners test their dogs even if they don’t intend to breed or show their dog(s), to maintain records of the health of German Pinschers within the UK.

Health Survey
