Karen Wakefield our Club Secretary and Health Co-Ordinator has just completed her profile for the Kennel Club website for her post which is for 3 years (2016 - 2019).
I would like to introduce myself to you- I am Karen Wakefield, I live in Cornwall with my husband, two Dobermans and three German Pinschers. I show both breeds and also breed German Pinschers. I am the Secretary of The German Pinscher Club (UK) . I write weekly Breed notes for German Pinschers for Our dogs. I am an Assured Breeder and have been a volunteer Assured Breeder Assessor for the Assured Breeder Scheme. I imported my first German Pinscher, a red bitch from the USA from the Legacy Kennel, Sassy, I owner handled her in the UK and Europe to become a Luxembourg and Netherlands Champion, the first English owned and handled Pinscher to achieve this. I next imported a red male from Sweden, Milo…..International Multi Champion Hickson Matrix of Milo at Brintala. Milo was Best of Breed at Crufts in 2015, Junior World winner in 2013 and became Champion of Italy, Netherlands and Luxembourg. He has had multiple BOB wins in the UK and Europe. He was the first UK owned and handled German Pinscher to attain an International Champion Title. He is also an absolute sweetheart and a joy to live with. By showing in Europe I have been fortunate enough to be able to forge strong friendships with experienced Pinscher breeders who have been generous with their advice and expertise. I have recently faciliated the importation of three beautiful bitches from the world renowned Ceriinan Kennel who will add to the expanding gene pool in the UK. I have successfully bred a number of litters and look forward to more in the future.
As Secretary of the German Pinscher Club I am a member of a group of people who are passionate about the breed and its future. We have been established since 1981 and are the original German Pinscher Club. We represent the breed at Discover Dogs twice a year and despite being a Rare breed hold two successful open shows a year, we support and encourage new owners with social activities and provide a breed seminar for aspiring Judges of the Breed. Its a team effort and none of our success would be possible without the support of our committee and members. Collectively our club arranges regular social gatherings raising the profile of the breed outside of the show environment injecting fun and relaxation.Personally, I am a Nurse by profession who has had a long and varied career at both Clinical and Managerial level. I am a professional person who is a confident communicator at all levels and encourages open discussion and debate.Something I believe is key to honest development and progression of the breed. I am delighted to be a Liaison Council Representative and will do my best to represent all opinions and views.
