Saturday 11th April’s events by Debbie Fitton…
A very early, grey, wet and windy start awaited us at Newbury Show Ground … That didn’t dampen our spirits though and after several attempts to secure our 9 metre marque and a brief discussion regarding safety we dismantled our shelter! We did however improvise with our banners, display boards, table and chairs to secure an area to promote our wonderful breed and enable a safe area for Canicross demonstrations.
As the public started to arrive the sun started to shine, although there was no let up with the wind! The German Pinscher Club UK members saw this as an opportunity to exercise our dogs together. There was great interest in our breed from walkers by many of whom had not seen German Pinschers before. They were keen to learn about the history and were happy to have the chance to interact with them, there’s nothing that can beat the affection from a happy, healthy GP.
A truly fun day out for all dog lovers, an opportunity to join in sporting activities, partake in a little shopping and get to spend time with our wonderful breed promoting our dogs and our club out in the fresh air! Can’t think of a better way to spend a weekend!
Sunday 12th April’s events by Rebecca Saunders
The sun shone Sunday morning as we entered the show ground in Newbury. We were looking forward to spending our day at ”All About Dogs” another opportunity to represent The German Pinscher Club UK, to meet other members of the club and their German Pinschers sharing our experiences as owners with the public. Debbie Fitton had worked hard to put a display together with photos and information about German Pinschers for our Stand, the weather proved quite a challenge to keeping them upright….well you can’t order the weather! but we persevered.
Otto and Ruby were quite happy to meet and greet other dogs and owners who visited the stand, they just loved the attention both very playful and friendly. This day was All About Dogs and Dog Lovers there was plenty to do and so we decided to walk around the show and take part in some of the activities with our Dogs. Ruby 9 months old was first to enter the Spring Puppy Parade in Arena 2. She showed off her playful side attracting some attention .She was given a rosette and certificate but the best for her was a bag of goodies.
Later Otto and Ruby entered 3 classes in the fun Dog show.” The Most Fabulous Family” obviously we were bias but we were not placed. Then Ruby in “The Loveliest Lady” and finally Ruby in the “Most Awesome Eyes” by this stage she was ready for a nap curled up in the ring and closed those awesome eyes.
We then went into the “Fun Pedigree all Breeds Working Dog/Bitch Show”, my-self with Otto and Darryl with Ruby. Willow was placed 3rd and Otto placed 6th Two German Pinschers in the top six not bad and good for their profile. After a break we went back to the stand and then we all decided to go and show off the dogs skills at agility…. Off to the Hurdles This really showed how they excel at agility and how fearless and confident they are. Otto competed it in 5 seconds slightly different style, possibly copying myself as we all had to run the course prior to the dogs and Ruby 7.29 seconds slow of the starting blocks. Brilliant display.
A final wander round the show ground viewing the stands and purchasing a few things for the dogs, before heading back to our stand and packing up ready to head home with some very exhausted but happy dogs who benefited from all the mental stimulation and physical activity definitely not bored. What a wonderful, fun breed they are.
Thank You to Debbie Fitton, Sally Clarke and Darryl Saunders for making this such a fun weekend for all.
